WHAT IS NEUROPSYCHOLOGY? Clinical neuropsychology is the study of the relationship between brain and specific behaviorally correlated and/or mental functions. It provides an understanding of how an individual functions in controlled conditions and in specific circumstances. The purpose of a neuropsychological evaluation is to gain knowledge in many areas: 1) assist by locating or confirming brain dysfunction/lesions which may be responsible for cognitive, behavioral, or emotional disorders; 2) gain better understanding of the individual's brain function; 3) analyze an individual's strengths and deficits; 4) assist by providing or confirming diagnoses, and 5) provide recommendations regarding rehabilitation techniques |
